Choosing an Island

So which of the Cayman Islands do you visit? These islands aren't identical triplets; they each have their own distinct personality, one that you'll want to match to your own.

If you are interested in duty-free shopping, gourmet dining, and luxurious accommodations (either hotels, condominiums, or villas), make Grand Cayman your base.

If, on the other hand, you plan to spend most of your time looking for that secluded strip of sand where you never see another set of footprints, then Little Cayman should be your destination. This tiny island reaches just 40 feet above sea level at its highest point and is home to fewer than 100 residents. It's little changed from a century ago, a perfect place to get away from it all and spend your day on a bicycle peddling empty roads, snorkeling in pristine waters, or looking for that perfect beach.

If you are interested in watersports activity, you've got a tougher choice. Each of these islands is great for scuba divers, each well known in the world of diving. Bonefishing is also a top draw, especially on Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Here you'll also find caving, birdwatching, and plenty of places for quiet walks.

TIP
Whichever your choice, you're never limited to just one destination in the Cayman Islands. Island-hopping is easy! These isles are much smaller than their easterly neighbors such as Cuba and Jamaica, so don't choose only one area to explore choose several!
